Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, delivered a speech on the occasion of International Customs Day, observed on January 26th each year. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain's participation in the global celebration, focusing on the theme "Customs protecting society through vigilance and commitment."
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Minister highlighted the pivotal role of customs in safeguarding societies and ensuring security worldwide. He pointed out that Customs Affairs in Bahrain is integral to the Ministry of Interior's security strategy, leveraging modern technologies to develop customs capabilities. This approach aligns with the comprehensive development goals championed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and followed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Interior Minister further elaborated on Customs Affairs' continuous efforts to secure ports and protect society by thwarting smuggling attempts and confronting prohibited materials. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to facilitate trade and travel, expand customs control, and enhance the business environment by accelerating procedures, implementing facilitation programmes, and developing electronic systems. He emphasized that these initiatives build investor confidence and support the national economy, reflecting the efficiency of customs control in safeguarding public safety through coordination with security authorities, strict vigilance, and strategic planning.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah noted that Customs Affairs follows a comprehensive strategic plan to bolster societal security and support the national economy by tightening control at customs ports. This strategy is designed to counter smuggling attempts that threaten public safety. Alongside these measures, Customs Affairs collaborates with regulatory and security authorities to inspect and seize prohibited materials, while fostering international cooperation and information exchange with other customs authorities.
He stressed the importance of addressing complex challenges such as organized crime, money laundering, and the smuggling of narcotics and prohibited materials through teamwork and enhanced integration among national, regional, and international institutions. This approach involves consolidating principles of partnership and mutual trust to exchange information and expertise effectively.
On International Customs Day, the Interior Minister praised the President of Customs Affairs and acknowledged the department's role in developing exceptional customs services. He expressed gratitude to all Customs Affairs members for their efficiency, vigilance, and advanced security awareness, recognizing the sector's need for dedication, experience, and technological adaptation. He concluded by wishing Customs Affairs ongoing success in their endeavors.
