St. Petersburg: The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the seventh edition of the Ethnosport Forum, recently held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The forum aimed to shape the future of traditional sports and preserve global cultural heritage.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the forum was attended by Tarek Juma Salem, Executive Director of the Bahrain Traditional Sports Committee. Salem met with Necmeddin Bilal Erdogan, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation, who extended an invitation for Bahrain to attend the International Traditional Games Exhibition in Trkiye next month.
The forum, organised by the confederation, brought together 75 countries, including 39 member states, alongside academics and independent researchers specialising in traditional sports. It is expected to pave the way for a roadmap for traditional sports based on the principles of tradition, respect, solidarity, and peace.
Since its founding, the confederation has continued its mission to preserve the identity of traditional games and sports, promote cultural exchange, and raise awareness of this heritage. The confederation's activities are rooted in shared human values, with the aim of reviving community memory through traditional games and passing this cultural legacy to future generations.
The forum featured panel discussions under the theme "Reviving Traditional Sports," exploring topics such as international cooperation, financial sustainability, and media strategies. It also included proposals and practical solutions to broaden the audience for traditional sports and enhance their visibility worldwide.
