National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons Holds Meeting on Coordination and Strategy

Manama: The National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons held its regular meeting to discuss coordination among relevant government entities, partnerships with the private sector and international organisations, and Bahrain's efforts in combating human trafficking. The meeting also reviewed ways to enhance these efforts, including recent visits by the U.S. State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and a delegation from the Global Commission on Trafficking in Persons.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Nebras Talib, CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, highlighted the importance of government-led efforts to combat human trafficking. He emphasised the role of awareness campaigns and fruitful partnerships in bolstering proactive measures to address this crime, reaffirming Bahrain's advancement in this area.

The meeting discussed several topics, including a preliminary draft of the national strategy to combat trafficking in persons, which integrates legislative frameworks, national strategies, recommendations from UN and international organisations, and insights from the Government Forum for Combating Human Trafficking in the Middle East.

The committee also addressed awareness initiatives to enhance the understanding of rights and obligations among labour stakeholders. Additionally, it reviewed the latest developments and recommendations related to combating trafficking in persons.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to advancing early detection mechanisms for trafficking indicators, protecting the rights of victims and potential victims, and ensuring the rights of all workers, including wages.

The committee stressed the importance of combating illegal labour market practices to maintain Bahrain's regional and international leadership in the fight against human trafficking, through the implementation of its legal mandates.
