Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have signed 16 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation across various promising sectors, including mining, solar energy, agriculture, food security, digital transformation, infrastructure and housing, pharmaceuticals, fisheries, and sports.
According to Bahrain News Agency, this development occurred during the visit of Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister for Foreign Trade, who led a high-level government and business delegation to the Lualaba Province in the DRC for the UAE-DRC Trade and Investment Day. The event served as a platform for strengthening economic ties and fostering collaboration between the private sectors of the two nations.
The UAE-DRC non-oil trade has shown significant growth, reaching US$2.1 billion in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 19.2% increase compared to the previous year. In a broader context, non-oil trade between the UAE and African countries surged to US$112 billion in 2024, reflecting a substantial 34% increase from the year before.
As a significant investor in Africa, the UAE has committed over US$110 billion to the continent since 2019, underscoring its pivotal role in Africa's economic development.
