Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the second edition of the Gulf Green Mobility Forum, held in the Sultanate of Oman, from September 2 - 3. The forum focused on discussing policies and initiatives related to sustainable transport, enhancing coordination, and exchanging expertise among GCC countries to promote green mobility.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Transportation Minister emphasized the significance of enhancing GCC cooperation and integration in sustainable transport to support the sustainability and carbon neutrality targets of GCC countries. He highlighted the need for developing a more efficient transport system that aligns with future trends in the sector. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed stressed the importance of aligning technical standards related to green mobility, developing joint initiatives, and leveraging modern technologies to support the transition towards sustainable transport. He noted that these efforts would create opportunities for public-private partnerships.
On the sidelines of the forum, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed held a meeting with Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in transport, telecommunications, and information technology. Discussions included exchanging expertise in port operations, logistics, and the regulation of telecommunications. Both sides explored prospects for cooperation and capacity building in green mobility, supporting GCC coordination, and developing joint solutions in sustainable transport.
As part of his visit, the Transportation Minister toured the Salalah Data Centre. He was briefed on its digital infrastructure and the technologies supporting cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. He also reviewed its operational capabilities and its role in supporting digital services and transformation.
