Speaker Commends HM King’s Designation of 2026 as “Year of Isa Al Kabeer”


Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, commended His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Royal Order designating 2026 as the “Year of Isa Al Kabeer”. This designation honors His Highness Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the Ruler of Bahrain and its Dependencies from 1869 to 1932, recognized as the founder of the modern state.



According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam stated that the designation celebrates a significant national legacy, emphasizing that Isa Al Kabeer laid the groundwork for the modern state. His leadership ushered in a period of stability and institutional development, a path that has been continued by successive rulers and has been further strengthened under the current leadership of His Majesty the King.



He pointed out the advancements and modernization across all sectors during His Highness’ rule, including the decision to make Muharraq his place of residence. The Speaker underscored the major developments in political, administrative, and social sectors during Isa Al Kabeer’s reign, such as the establishment of institutional governance, the promotion of security and justice, and the enhancement of the judicial system.



Additionally, he noted that this era marked the formation of legal and civil institutions, the establishment of customs administration, agriculture and irrigation councils, and the founding of the first municipality in the Gulf region. Speaker Al Musallam further highlighted that Isa Al Kabeer’s rule also saw the opening of Bahrain’s first post office in Manama, the provision of healthcare services, the creation of a quarantine facility, the construction of the Kingdom’s first hospital, and the introduction of formal education with schools for boys and girls, along with support for cultural institutions and libraries.



He reiterated the Council of Representatives’ pride in the Royal Order, emphasizing its commitment to initiatives that preserve the Kingdom’s national history, strengthen national identity, and highlight the contributions of Bahrain’s leaders in building and advancing the Kingdom’s development.
