Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Fishing Competition Highlights Bahrain’s Maritime Heritage

Manama: The second round of the fishing competition in the eighth Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season is taking place this week for the cup of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS).

According to Bahrain News Agency, the event brings together fishermen and sea enthusiasts from across Bahrain, following the success of the first round held last week for the cup of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the SCYS, President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC). That round drew strong participation and featured close competition among more than 900 fishermen.

Boats will set out early on Friday in an atmosphere that reflects Bahrain's enduring connection to the sea and its maritime heritage.

Organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth) with the support of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the event underscores efforts to preserve Bahrain's maritime traditions and pass them on to younger generations.

Now in its eighth year, the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season has become a key part of Bahrain's cultural and sporting calendar, promoting traditional sports and the values of patience, teamwork, and pride in the nation's heritage.
