Manama: In response to the escalating military situation in Yemen and the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks against Saudi Arabia, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting. This session, requested by the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, included participation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Yemen.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting focused on recent Houthi missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia on September 7, 2026, and the growing military tension in Yemen after the Houthis took control of the strategic coastal city of Mocha. This city, overlooking the Red Sea, is located near the critical Bab Al-Mandab Strait, heightening concerns over regional stability.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, condemned the Houthi attacks on civilian areas in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran. He labeled these actions as violations of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Ambassador Alrowaiei further emphasized that the Houthi's ongoing threats to maritime security and navigation are a direct challenge to the international community. He cautioned against the militias' attempts to bypass United Nations sanctions.
Representing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Ambassador Alrowaiei delivered a statement condemning the Houthi attacks and expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The GCC urged the international community, particularly the Security Council, to take decisive action against these violations and enforce relevant resolutions, notably Resolution 2216.
