Foreign Ministers Discuss Escalating Tensions in Yemen Amid Security Council Proceedings

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call from Dr. Afrah Abdulaziz Al Zouba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen. During the call, the two sides discussed the close relations between the two countries and ways to further strengthen them across various areas of mutual interest.According to Bahrain News Agency, the conversation also focused on cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs in political and diplomatic training, as well as bilateral consultations on international issues currently under consideration by the United Nations Security Council. This discussion is notably significant in light of the Kingdom of Bahrain's non-permanent membership of the Council.The dialogue included a review of the emergency meeting held by the Security Council at the request of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom. The meeting addressed the military escalation in Yemen, particularly the terrorist attacks conduct ed by Houthi militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and issues surrounding maritime security in the region. The call highlighted the dangerous military escalation following the Houthis' seizure of the coastal city of Mocha, which overlooks the Red Sea and is situated near the strategic Bab Al-Mandab Strait.Both ministers affirmed that the ongoing targeting of maritime security and threats to freedom of navigation by the Houthi militias represent a direct challenge to the international community and pose a severe threat to regional and international peace and security. They also underscored the importance of supporting the legitimate Yemeni Government's efforts to restore security and stability across Yemen, safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and realize the aspirations of the Yemeni people for peace, development, and prosperity.
