Saudi Local Silk Initiative for Kaaba Kiswa

Madinah: At the fifth annual forum for development initiatives, held at the King Salman International Convention Center, attendees were introduced to a new project to produce natural silk locally for the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba and the Prophet's Sacred Chamber.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the initiative, presented by the Jazan Mountains Development Authority in partnership with the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, aims to replace imported silk. Jazan will handle silk production and supply it to the King Abdulaziz Complex, following specific project guidelines.

Highlighted at the Jazan Region's pavilion during the two-day forum organised by the Principality of Madinah Region, the initiative promotes local silk cultivation using silkworms. It aims to create jobs, support mountain farmers, attract investment, encourage sustainability, and boost local silk output. The project has been officially approved by the General Authority.
