Manama: Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan, Chief of Public Security, met with a delegation from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), led by Jay Bernstein. The meeting aimed to discuss enhancing international cooperation and sharing expertise.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Lt. Gen. Al Hassan outlined the Kingdom of Bahrain’s internal security landscape. He emphasised that the progress and modernisation of the kingdom’s security sector are driven by the strong support and strategic guidance of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior. This support, he noted, underpins ongoing development plans to enhance security, stability, and operational readiness.
He highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s continued efforts to modernise policing through community engagement and closer interaction with the public.
The Chief of Public Security underlined the value of collaboration with international institutions, noting that such partnerships facilitate the exchange of best practices, promote continuous professional development, and enhance the capabilities of national security personnel through training and knowledge transfer.
The meeting also showcased the Kingdom’s innovative initiatives, including the Alternative Penal Code and the “Open Prisons” programme, which reflect the kingdom’s humanitarian approach to criminal justice. These initiatives prioritise rehabilitation and reintegration, while maintaining public safety.
Both sides discussed further opportunities for collaboration, coordination, and the sharing of expertise between Bahrain and WINEP.
Bernstein commended the Kingdom’s achievements in advancing security and community safety, noting that they reflect a clear strategic vision and sustained national effort.
