Berlin: The Petersberg Climate Dialogue begins in Berlin with the participation of over 30 countries, amid growing challenges related to the energy crisis and the global economy. The meeting aims to prepare for the upcoming United Nations climate summit scheduled for November in the Turkish city of Antalya.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the talks address key issues, most notably accelerating the gradual phase-out of fossil fuel sources such as oil, coal, and gas, which scientific data indicate contribute significantly to rising global temperatures. Efforts to establish a clear roadmap for this transition stalled during the previous United Nations climate conference in 2025 in Brazil, but tensions in global energy markets and supply issues are renewing the focus on reducing reliance on these sources and expanding renewable energy.
Sessions on Wednesday are expected to mark the peak of the dialogue through high-level consultations, the German News Agency reported. The Petersberg Climate Dialogue has been held since 2010, organised by Germany as a complement to the United Nations climate conferences. It was initially launched in the Petersberg area near Bonn before later moving to Berlin, where it is now held regularly.
