Oil Minister Praises New Environmental Crimes Unit in Bahrain

Manama:Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, the Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, has praised the Attorney General's Decision (52) of 2026, which establishes the Environmental and Public Health Crimes Unit to address and investigate crimes related to environmental and public health legislation across the Kingdom of Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Bin Daina highlighted the national role of the Public Prosecution in reinforcing the specialized judicial system. He emphasized that this decision marks a crucial advancement in enforcing environmental and public health laws, which is vital for protecting Bahrain's natural resources, including wildlife, marine resources, beaches, coastlines, and water sources.

Dr. Bin Daina explained that the formation of a specialized unit will enhance the efficiency of handling environmental cases, improve investigative capabilities, and aid in the technical collection of evidence in complex cases. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support sustainable development strategies in Bahrain.

The minister also mentioned the Supreme Council for Environment's commitment to fostering collaboration with the Public Prosecution and other entities to develop joint working mechanisms for implementing environmental legislation to high standards.

The decision aims to build specialized judicial expertise, define the unit's responsibilities in handling environmental and public health-related reports and crimes, and includes overseeing court cases, preparing statistics, monitoring crime trends, and proposing necessary legislative measures.
