Tashkent: MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, representing the Arab Group and a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Bureau of Young Parliamentarians, actively participated in the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians hosted in Uzbekistan.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during a session dedicated to addressing climate change resilience, MP Ibrahim underscored Bahrain's ambitious climate action goals. These include achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, reducing emissions, expanding renewable energy resources, afforestation, and ecosystem protection under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Council of Representatives, he noted, is committed to supporting and overseeing the implementation of legislation and policies that translate these climate targets into actionable measures.
MP Ibrahim also contributed to discussions on enhancing economic rights and employment opportunities for the youth, spotlighting Bahrain's commitment to empowering young people in economic development through human capital growth and integration into the national economy. He referenced Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainability, justice, competitiveness, and human capital development while fostering employment and growth.
In another session focused on political rights and combating violence against women and youth, MP Ibrahim shared Bahrain's national experience in political and human rights, highlighting the nation's reformative and constitutional projects. He emphasized the role of the Council of Representatives in developing legislation and public policies to safeguard political and social rights, urging young parliamentarians to foster political engagement among new generations and oppose violence and discrimination.
On the conference's sidelines, MP Ibrahim engaged in a joint meeting with UK House of Commons members Daniel Carden and Alicia Kearns, reflecting on the longstanding Bahrain-UK relationship and parliamentary cooperation. Discussions covered regional developments, with MP Hassan reiterating Bahrain's dedication to dialogue, peace, security, respect for state sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs. He highlighted the Kingdom's effective response to recent Iranian attacks and measures to protect citizens, support economic activities, and maintain stability.
Further meetings with Agha Shahzaib Durrani from the Pakistani Senate and Raja Osama Sarwar from the Pakistani National Assembly focused on Bahrain-Pakistan ties and the contributions of the Pakistani community in Bahrain. MP Hassan expressed appreciation for Pakistan's mediation efforts, emphasizing Bahrain's model of coexistence among diverse religions and cultures. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to peace, dialogue, and regional stability, underscoring the importance of ongoing cooperation and coordination.
Durrani also discussed the security challenges in the Gulf region, highlighting the need for strengthened cooperation between regional and friendly countries. Both sides agreed to build on Bahrain-Pakistan ties to enhance bilateral relations, especially at the parliamentary level, to support shared interests, security, peace, and stability in the region.
