Tehran: Separate US attacks in southwestern Iran have killed 11 people and injured dozens more, Iranian state media reported on Wednesday.
According to Deutsche Welle, in Hormozgan province, which straddles the Strait of Hormuz, four people, including a child, were killed after shrapnel from a US missile attack hit a residential home in the coastal city of Kuhestak where a wedding was taking place, as reported by the Iranian Red Crescent. More than 50 people were reported injured.
AFP news agency reported a video shared by an Iranian government account showed extensive debris and damage at what it said was the site of the wedding in Sirik county. "This cruelty cannot be separated from the chain of atrocities that preceded it," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement, pointing to previous attacks including a strike on a girls' school in Minab in February that killed 160 people.
Elsewhere, officials in Khuzestan province further to the north said US missile attacks on three locations in the province killed seven people and injured eight.
US officials did not directly address reports of the strike on a wedding, but US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated, "the US military never targets civilians."
