Nagoya: His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and head of the Kingdom of Bahrain delegation, presented the South Korean team with the gold medal in basketball at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, being held in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
According to Bahrain News Agency, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali presented the Korean team with the title after they beat Japan 67-57 in the final, which saw strong competition between the two teams. The ceremony was attended by His Highness Prince Fahad bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Education Committee and member of the Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia; Hideaki Omura, Governor of Aichi Prefecture and President of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC); and Dr. Kempareddy Govindaraj, President of FIBA Asia.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali congratulated the Korean team on winning the gold medal, commending their performance throughout the competition and the outstanding displays by their players that earned them a place on the podium.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali said the final reflected the high level of Asian basketball and the strong technical abilities of the participating teams. His Highness also commended the overall standard of the competition and the level of competition and excitement it produced.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali congratulated the Korean team on winning the gold medal and the Japanese team on their performance and reaching the final. His Highness said the competition was strong and featured high technical standards, reflecting the development of basketball across Asia.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali added that the Asian Games provide an important meeting place for the continent's athletes and help promote sporting competition and the exchange of experience between Asian countries. His Highness wished all participating teams and athletes success in the remaining events of the Games.
