Dubai: Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the signing of the definitive purchase agreement with Boeing for 787 Dreamliners, confirming the commitment announced earlier in July 2025 during the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the United States. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of Dubai Airshow 2025.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Khalid Husain Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group, stated that the signing is an important step in developing Gulf Air's long-term fleet. By confirming the purchase of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the airline is moving forward with its plan to expand capacity, strengthen long-haul services, and offer a higher-quality, more sustainable travel experience. He added that this agreement builds on Gulf Air's longstanding partnership with Boeing, which has supported the airline's growth for many years.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner remains a cornerstone of Gulf Air's fleet, widely recognised for its advanced technology, environmental performance, and superior cabin comfort. The confirmed order supports the airline's ongoing work to modernise its fleet while progressing toward international sustainability commitments.
Stephanie Pope, president and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, mentioned that Gulf Air is taking significant steps to grow its global presence. She noted that Boeing is honoured the airline has chosen the 787 Dreamliner as the core of its fleet now and in the future, and that the aircraft's efficiency and passenger comfort align with Gulf Air's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
As previously announced, Gulf Air and Boeing have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding exploring localised maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in Bahrain. This initiative aligns with Gulf Air Group's broader efforts to strengthen Bahrain's position as a regional aviation hub, develop local talent, and attract high-value technical investment.
The confirmation of this agreement underscores Gulf Air's commitment to sustainable expansion, enhanced global connectivity, and the continued development of the aviation sector in the Kingdom.
