Manama: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Supreme Council concluded its 46th session at Al Sakhir Palace in Bahrain, presided over by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The final statement, reflecting on numerous regional and international issues, was released following the session.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the session saw participation from key leaders, including His Highness Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, and other distinguished representatives from member states. The Supreme Council expressed gratitude to Kuwait for its leadership during the 45th session and welcomed Bahrain’s presidency of the current session.
The Council highlighted the indivisibility of GCC security, affirming collective defense in response to any aggression. It reviewed progress in implementing King Salman of Saudi Arabia’s vision for joint Gulf action, emphasizing economic unity and strategic partnerships. The Council also supported Bahrain’s proposal for a Government Action Programme to enhance cooperation among member states.
In joint Gulf action, the Council endorsed the establishment of a GCC Civil Aviation Authority and approved initiatives like the GCC Railway Project. It praised the efforts in governance, transparency, and combating corruption, alongside the achievements in human rights and Islamic affairs.
On environmental issues, the Council committed to collaboration on energy transitions and climate change initiatives under the Middle East Green Initiative framework. It also supported the Circular Carbon Economy approach, promoting sustainable energy solutions.
The Council addressed the situation in Gaza, supporting humanitarian efforts and condemning Israeli actions. It applauded the role of Qatar and other states in achieving ceasefire agreements and endorsed international resolutions for peace and reconstruction.
On Iran, the Council reiterated support for UAE’s sovereignty over the three disputed islands and condemned Iran’s actions in the region. It emphasized dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes, urging Iran to adhere to international law and UN resolutions.
The session reflected on regional issues, supporting stability and development efforts in Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon. It praised humanitarian aid efforts and emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolutions in conflict zones.
The Council highlighted strategic partnerships with international bodies and states, including dialogues with the United States, ASEAN, and European partners, aiming to enhance political and developmental goals.
Finally, the Council welcomed Saudi Arabia’s invitation to host the 47th session, looking forward to continued collaboration and progress under its presidency.
