Foreign Minister of Bahrain Engages in Critical Talks with UN Secretary-General

New york: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held an important meeting with Ant³nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to address pressing regional and international issues. The discussions focused on the latest developments in the region, efforts to de-escalate tensions, and maintaining regional security and stability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting delved into the repercussions of Iranian attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain and other GCC states, alongside Iran's ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The closure's impact on energy security, international trade, and the global economy was a significant point of concern.

The talks also included an exchange of views on supporting Pakistani mediation efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace agreement to resolve the conflict between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Efforts to restore maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz were discussed as a means to contribute to regional and international peace and security.

The importance of the UN Security Council's role in addressing global peace and security issues was highlighted during the meeting. Support for United Nations efforts to resolve conflicts through diplomatic solutions and dialogue, as well as promoting sustainable development and strengthening humanitarian work, was emphasized.

The meeting underscored the necessity to address regional challenges and advance efforts to maintain security and stability, including prioritizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation. Such measures are deemed essential for ensuring international peace and security.

The discussions were attended by Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the accompanying delegation.
