Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, emphasized that Bahrain is committed to respecting rights, public freedoms, and human dignity. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, principles of justice, equality, and the rule of law have been advanced.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani marked Human Rights Day and the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by expressing pride in Bahrain's progress in promoting civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. He highlighted the Kingdom's efforts to build a strong human rights framework through a constitutional and legislative system aligned with international standards.
Dr. Al Zayani noted the role of independent oversight bodies, including the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Ombuds Office, in advancing justice, transparency, and accountability. He also mentioned the work of the National Audit Office (NAO) and the Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) in promoting democratic culture.
Bahrain's legislation, such as Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons, and its Combating Trafficking in Persons Law, has helped maintain its top Tier 1 ranking in the United States Department of State report for eight consecutive years. Updated media legislation promotes responsible freedoms under the rule of law.
The Minister praised the legislative, regulatory, and social environment that empowers Bahraini women, supported by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa. Laws protecting priority groups, including those for children and women, were also highlighted.
Bahrain's commitment to regional and international partnerships in human rights was emphasized, along with its contributions to international organizations and initiatives promoting peace and coexistence. Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in international confidence in Bahrain's diplomatic approach, noting its achievements in hosting key summits and supporting peace initiatives.
He also highlighted Bahrain's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term and its upcoming chairmanship of the Arab Group at UNESCO. These roles are expected to enhance Bahrain's diplomatic and humanitarian influence.
Dr. Al Zayani concluded by reaffirming Bahrain's dedication to consolidating human rights achievements in line with its Government Programme, National Human Rights Plan, and Economic Vision 2030, within a democratic society that upholds justice and respects human rights.
