Foreign Minister: Bahrain-Cyprus Summit Marks Key Step in Strategic Partnership

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's pride, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, during the official visit of His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus. He described the visit as a key milestone in the long-standing cooperation and close strategic partnership between the two countries, underpinned by trust, understanding, mutual respect, and shared human values.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani commended the outcome of HE President Christodoulides's official visit, which reflected the two countries' leadership and the governments' commitment to further develop their strategic partnership. He welcomed the official opening of the Embassy of Cyprus in Manama, coinciding with the 44th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He also noted the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the domains of defense, diplomacy, culture and antiquities, education, tourism, transport and communications, technology, information exchange, and the development of maritime and air freight services.

The Minister highlighted Bahrain's commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty the King and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in enhancing bilateral relations with Cyprus to serve the mutual interests of both countries and enhance their roles in promoting security, peace, and sustainable development at national, regional, and international levels. He also noted their contributions to supporting Gulf-European strategic and economic dialogue and partnership, within the framework of Bahrain's current presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council and its non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, and Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of this year.

He commended the diplomatic positions of both countries, reflecting their shared commitment to achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region and the world, resolving disputes by peaceful means, and supporting the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution. He also emphasized the importance of international cooperation to ensure maritime security and protect global trade routes, and the promotion of tolerance, human fraternity, and dialogue between civilizations, in line with the leading initiatives of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance, in cooperation with Cypriot and international religious, cultural and educational institutions.

Dr. Al Zayani expressed appreciation for the constructive coordination and cooperation between the two foreign ministries through the exchange of high-level official visits and three rounds of political consultations, the latest of which was in Nicosia. He also welcomed Cyprus's participation in the 21st edition of the IISS Manama Dialogue 2025 on regional security and Bahrain's hosting of the annual regional meeting of Cypriot ambassadors accredited to the Gulf Cooperation Council in November, reflecting the mutual trust and the key role of Bahraini diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister underlined the success of the Bahrain-Cyprus summit in highlighting the significant progress achieved in strategic cooperation and strong bilateral partnership, and the shared commitment to further developing relations across political, economic, social, cultural, and security domains, to benefit both countries and peoples and support their diplomatic efforts to build a world of peace, security, coexistence, and sustainable prosperity.
