First Deputy Speaker of Bahrain’s House of Representatives Engages with Malaysian Deputy Minister on AI and Bilateral Ties

Kuala lumpur: MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, met with Dr. Noraini Ahmed, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, during the International Conference on the Role of Parliaments in Shaping the Future of Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), held in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was also attended by MP Dr. Mahdi Al Shuwaikh and MP Mohsen Al Asbool.

According to Bahrain News Agency, MP Salman highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Bahrain and Malaysia, emphasizing the continuous development of bilateral relations. He acknowledged Malaysia as a favored destination for Bahrainis since the 1980s, a testament to the mutual trust and cultural exchanges between the two nations. He further expressed pride in the positive cooperation across various sectors, noting the significant number of Bahraini students pursuing education in Malaysian universities.

At the conference, MP Salman underscored the necessity of ethical frameworks to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI technologies, identifying this as a shared interest that could enhance collaboration with Malaysia, which is increasingly focused on the AI field. He also highlighted the vital role of parliamentary friendship committees in exchanging experiences and strengthening partnerships between the two countries.

Dr. Noraini Ahmad praised the growing relations between Bahrain and Malaysia, recognizing Bahrain as a key partner in multiple sectors, including parliamentary, economic, and cultural arenas. She expressed optimism about implementing joint initiatives in higher education, the halal supply chain, and disability affairs. Dr. Ahmad emphasized Malaysia's readiness to engage with the Bahraini embassy and relevant government agencies to transform these discussions into actionable work programs.
