Amman:A delegation from the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs and the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) joined the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Amman, Jordan. This event was part of the preparations for the conference set to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting included dialogue sessions and specialized discussions on topics such as sustainable water supplies, improving service efficiency, and the role of water resources in economic development and vital sectors. Additionally, the discussions addressed the protection of ecosystems, adaptation to climate change impacts, and solutions to water scarcity. The participants explored ways to strengthen regional and international partnerships in the water sector, unify Arab positions, and enhance the visibility of water issues in global forums. Furthermore, the meeting emphasized promoting investment and innovation, as well as building private-sector partnerships to develop and sustain water infrastructure.
The delegation from Bahrain asserted the country's commitment to adopting best practices and sustainable solutions for managing water resources. They highlighted efforts to improve resource efficiency and foster regional and international cooperation, which supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhances water security and sustainability.
Representatives from Bahrain included Taha Hassan Al Mohsen, Director of the Water Transmission Directorate; Jaber Nasser Al Ghannami, Outsourcing Project Manager at EWA; and Fadel Abbas Salman, Head of Operations Group at the Ras Abu Jarjur Desalination Plant.
