Deputy Prime Minister Opens Istidama Centre for Sustainability in Manama

Manama:Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, inaugurated the Istidama Centre of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the inauguration was attended by Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs. The Istidama Centre is dedicated to awareness, training, and capacity-building in sustainability, the green economy, and carbon neutrality.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah emphasized Bahrain's commitment to building on its infrastructure achievements and supporting sustainability across key sectors. This effort aligns with the comprehensive development goals led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and directed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He highlighted the government's focus on sustainability and efficient resource use, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and Bahrain's target of carbon neutrality by 2060. The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting sustainability and enhancing environmental innovation.

During the ceremony, Shaikh Khalid toured the centre, examining its services, training programs, and use of technology for waste data analysis. He also reviewed initiatives involving public and private schools and the integration of efforts toward a green economy.

The event also included the signing of two memoranda of understanding to support the Istidama Centre. These agreements were made with Bahrain Islamic Bank and "Safaa," a subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, focusing on national carbon offsetting and climate action.

Shaikh Khalid praised the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and its partners for their contributions to environmental action. Minister Al Mubarak expressed gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for his support, noting the centre's role in advancing environmental awareness and sustainable practices in the community.
