Deputy Prime Minister Chairs Meeting on Critical Development Projects and Infrastructure

Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, chaired the 299th meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Development Projects and Infrastructure. At the outset, the committee expressed its deepest thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for ratifying and issuing Law (14) of 2026, which approved the framework agreement for financing the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Development Project (Phase II) between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the committee extended gratitude to the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives for approving the draft law, showcasing constructive cooperation between the executive and legislative branches in support of the Kingdom's comprehensive development process. The Deputy Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Works to initiate necessary procedures for the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Development Project, aiming for completion in line with high standards of quality and efficiency, and within approved timelines to enhance traffic flow and support the Kingdom's road infrastructure network.

The committee commended the national role of the Bahrain Defence Force, the National Guard, the Ministry of Interior, and other entities for their efforts in safeguarding the Kingdom's sovereignty and security. It reiterated its condemnation of the Iranian attacks on Bahrain and the region, emphasizing Bahrain's stance calling on Iran to cease all hostile acts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The committee praised the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications for its preparedness measures at Bahrain International Airport, following the reopening of airspace after a temporary closure due to Iranian attacks. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was also commended for its support during this period, reflecting the strong ties and integration between the two countries.

Efforts by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce were highlighted, particularly in ensuring smooth supply chains and the availability of food stock. The committee also appreciated the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture for its rainwater drainage efforts and directed further mosquito control campaigns in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

The committee welcomed the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture's steps to strengthen partnerships with the private sector through engagement with the Association of Engineering Offices. Developments and improvements to the "Benayat" building permit system were highlighted, along with positive performance indicators.

The committee reviewed agenda items including civil protection measures in homes and infrastructure, emphasizing the adoption of best standards for safety and security. Developments in the Manama waterfront and Muharraq projects were also discussed, focusing on tourism, investment appeal, housing, road development, and preservation of historical character, alongside updates on construction material availability for ongoing projects.
