Bahrain Reaffirms Commitment to Adequate Housing on World Habitat Day

Manama:Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, has emphasized Bahrain's dedication to providing adequate housing for its citizens. This commitment is viewed as a fundamental element of the nation's comprehensive development strategy, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, during the observance of World Habitat Day, which this year is themed "Adequate Housing for All," Al Musallam highlighted the progress Bahrain has made in housing and urban development. This includes significant housing projects, the establishment of new cities, the expansion of housing finance programs, infrastructure improvements, expedited distribution of housing units, and the reduction of waiting lists.

He underscored the need for diverse housing solutions tailored to the needs of Bahraini families, ensuring quality construction and sustainable urban development. He also stressed the importance of access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and recreation.

Al Musallam pointed out Bahrain's initiatives in promoting sustainable urban planning, environmental protection, enhancement of public transport, and the development of smart, resilient cities poised to tackle future challenges.

The Speaker confirmed the Council of Representatives' backing for government policies, legislation, and initiatives that expand access to adequate housing, advance urban development, and enhance citizens' quality of life. He also lauded the strategic partnership with the private sector, which plays a crucial role in developing sustainable and inclusive cities.

He reiterated that Bahrain's efforts in housing and urban development are geared towards meeting the demands of population and economic growth, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for generations to come. Al Musallam noted that World Habitat Day serves as a platform to showcase Bahrain's achievements and legislative framework supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
