Bahrain Participates in Election of First Female IPU Secretary General at 217th Governing Council Session

Istanbul: Bahrain's parliamentary division delegation participated in the election of the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held within the framework of the 217th session of the Governing Council of the Union, on the sidelines of the 152nd IPU General Assembly, held in Trkiye. Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Hala Ramzi Fayez, and Dr. Bassam Ismail Al Bin Mohammed, members of the Shura Council, were part of the delegation.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Tulia Ackson, President of the IPU, announced the election of Anda Filip of Romania as Secretary General of the Union, after she secured 229 votes, making her the first woman to hold the post. Bahrain's parliamentary division delegation congratulated Filip on winning the majority of the world's parliaments to assume the position. They commended her extensive experience in parliamentary work, having served as Director of External Relations and Parliamentary Relations at the IPU Secretariat since 2011.
