Manama: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, presided over the 29th meeting of the GCC ministers responsible for municipal affairs in Bahrain. This meeting was part of Bahrain's leadership role during the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting saw participation from ministers and officials in charge of municipal affairs across the GCC countries, as well as Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC. Minister Al Mubarak emphasized Bahrain's dedication under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to enhance municipal work by aligning with sustainable development goals and improving urban development and community services.
Minister Al Mubarak highlighted the importance of the meeting in reinforcing the commitment of GCC countries to coordinate and share expertise in municipal affairs. This involves the development of best practices and services, strengthening integration among GCC nations, and enhancing the municipal sector's efficiency to address future challenges.
He further stressed the necessity of advancing municipal services to align with rapid global changes, which support sustainable urban environments and improve quality of life. The minister outlined the importance of evolving legislation, municipal oversight mechanisms, and continuing the exchange of successful municipal practices among GCC countries. Additionally, he reaffirmed Bahrain's dedication to active participation in GCC initiatives, such as the GCC Green Building Requirements Guide and the GCC Building Regulations Guide, which are part of the broader GCC Joint Municipal Action Plan.
Minister Al Mubarak expressed gratitude to the GCC Secretariat-General and related committees for their efforts in preparing the meeting, which included discussions on urban development, municipal legislation, and strategic urban planning. The agenda also covered the GCC Joint Municipal Action Plan for 2024-2030, smart city initiatives, municipal sustainability, and the exchange of expertise among member states.
The ministers approved various decisions and recommendations for the GCC Supreme Council and discussed joint initiatives to advance municipal cooperation across the GCC. On the sidelines, Minister Al Mubarak and Albudaiwi celebrated the contributions of winners in the sixth edition of the GCC Municipalities Award for 2025-2026, honoring their innovative efforts in municipal work.
