Manama: Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, a Bahraini Member of the Council of Representatives and part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Bureau of Young Parliamentarians, represented the Arab Group at the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. The conference, held under the theme "Reclaiming Human Rights, Justice and Dignity for All in Turbulent Times," convened approximately 120 young parliamentarians and delegates from 50 IPU member parliaments, alongside representatives from seven United Nations offices and numerous youth organizations worldwide.
According to Bahrain News Agency, MP Hassan emphasized Bahrain's dedication to empowering youth under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He spoke about the opportunities provided for young people to engage in national development. MP Hassan highlighted Bahrain's historical ties to the sea, which have instilled a proactive approach to change, fostering development and promoting justice and dignity.
MP Hassan addressed the role of parliamentarians in affirming rights and translating them into tangible outcomes. He stressed the significance of education and participation for youth, enabling them to shape their future and have a voice in decision-making processes. He also discussed global challenges such as emerging conflicts, economic uncertainty, technological change, and climate issues, and mentioned a growing "crisis of hope" among young people regarding their future prospects.
He noted the critical role of young parliamentarians who are attuned to their generation's aspirations and challenges while possessing legislative tools to instigate change. These tools include legislation development, budget contribution, and making parliaments more accessible to youth. MP Hassan called for a supportive environment for youth participation in decision-making and urged conference attendees to devise ideas that inspire optimism among young people.
