Doha:Bahrain's efforts in advancing integrity and transparency were highlighted by MP Mohamed Al Ahmad during the sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Ahmad emphasized Bahrain's progress in combating corruption, attributing it to the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This approach has enhanced an institutional framework rooted in law, transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of public funds.
He also highlighted the legislative and oversight roles of the Council of Representatives in bolstering anti-corruption measures. This includes reviewing oversight reports, holding authorities accountable, and updating legislation to align with international standards.
Furthermore, Al Ahmad noted the crucial cooperation between the Council and the National Audit Office (NAO), stating that the NAO's annual reports provide a solid foundation for parliamentary oversight on financial and administrative issues.
He stressed the shared national responsibility in combating corruption, which necessitates coordinated efforts across various institutions and stronger legal protections for witnesses and whistleblowers. Emphasis on prevention and public awareness was also underscored.
Al Ahmad reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to continuously developing its national anti-corruption framework and enhancing institutional cooperation to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability.
