Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has issued a strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attempts to target oil facilities in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. These attacks were executed by Iran-backed militias using drones launched from Iraqi territory. Bahrain described the assaults as a significant escalation that poses a threat to regional security and stability, violates international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and undermines ongoing efforts to ease regional tensions.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, expressing unwavering support for any measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability. The statement affirmed Saudi Arabia's right to respond to aggression sources in line with the United Nations Charter, international law, and the GCC Joint Defence Agreement.
The Ministry emphasized Bahrain's backing for any action Saudi Arabia deems appropriate, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and affirming that Saudi Arabia's security is integral to Bahrain's national security and that of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Furthermore, the Ministry praised the efficiency and readiness of Saudi Arabia's air defense forces, which successfully intercepted and destroyed the drones, thereby safeguarding civilians and critical infrastructure.
The Ministry reiterated the GCC's call for the Iraqi government to ensure all weapons are under state control. It urged Iraq to prevent armed militias from using its territory for regional attacks and called on Iran to cease supporting these militias and end its hostile actions.
The Ministry renewed Bahrain's appeal to the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to adopt a resolution condemning the attacks carried out by Iran and its proxies. It called for the cessation of these attacks, respect for state sovereignty, and the protection of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.
Finally, the Ministry demanded that Iran be held accountable, legally and financially, under international law and applicable United Nations and Human Rights Council resolutions, to strengthen regional and international peace and security.
