Manama: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Marwan Fouad Kamal, Undersecretary for Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, chaired the extraordinary meeting of the Planning, Coordination and Follow-up Committee of the Ministers of Youth and Sports of the GCC states. The meeting was held via videoconference, with participation from representatives of youth and sports ministries across the GCC, alongside the General Secretariat.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Undersecretary for Youth Affairs affirmed that the meeting reflects the deep ties among GCC states and underscores the shared commitment to advancing joint Gulf action, particularly in the youth sector. This sector is considered crucial for building the present and shaping the future. The youth sector receives significant attention across GCC countries due to its role in strengthening national identity and fostering a sense of belonging.
The meeting reviewed several agenda items, including developments related to the recent Iranian attacks on GCC states and their implications for youth. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for exchanging experiences and best practices under such circumstances, the work plan of joint committees for 2026 in light of recent developments, as well as alternative digital youth initiatives and programs. Additionally, means to enhance the sustainability of youth activities in partnership with the private and non-profit sectors were discussed.
The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations to be submitted to the Committee of Ministers of Youth and Sports of the GCC states. These recommendations aim to support joint Gulf youth action and align with the aspirations of youth across the GCC.
