New york: The Kingdom of Bahrain underscored the pivotal role of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six principal organs established under the UN Charter, in strengthening international cooperation and advancing a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for all peoples.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the remarks were delivered by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York. He spoke on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of ECOSOC. Ambassador Al Rowaie emphasized that today's global challenges are interconnected and transboundary in nature and cannot be addressed by any country in isolation. He called for collective responses grounded in international solidarity, the exchange of expertise, and shared responsibility to reinforce international peace and stability.
He also highlighted the importance of achieving balanced integration across the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The ambassador emphasized the central role of science, technology, and innovation in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, in line with the provisions of the "Pact for the Future" regarding ECOSOC's core mandate.
The statement concluded by affirming the GCC states' commitment to continued joint engagement with all UN bodies and agencies, including ECOSOC, to strengthen multilateral action and contribute to building a better future for generations to come.
