Manama:Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, announced ongoing developments in Bahrain's maritime sector aimed at bolstering safety, security, and environmental protection. These efforts include the implementation of legislation and international agreements.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Minister highlighted the importance of Law (10) of 2022, which provides a modern legal framework for the maritime sector. This law has been instrumental in enhancing the implementation of national and international maritime standards.
Bahrain's successful completion of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) audit underscores the Kingdom's commitment to international maritime conventions. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed emphasized Bahrain's active participation in the Riyadh Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control, which involves inspecting foreign ships arriving at Bahraini ports to ensure compliance with regulations.
Further, the Minister pointed out improvements in the inspection system for Bahraini-flagged ships. This system is supported by qualified national personnel and modern techniques, leading to better compliance and fewer maritime incidents.
He reaffirmed Bahrain's dedication to maintaining the freedom and safety of international navigation, ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels in accordance with international law and relevant conventions.
