Manama: The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security organized the "National Partnership for Enhancing Integrity and Combating Corruption" forum, aligning with International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9. The event saw extensive participation from both government and private sector entities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Colonel Ahmed Saad Al Rumaihi, Director General of the General Directorate, highlighted Bahrain's commitment to developing a comprehensive national anti-corruption system. This initiative, guided by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's directives, emphasizes transparency, accountability, and the protection of national achievements. He noted that the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, are crucial in enhancing the system's efficiency by reinforcing integrity and strengthening trust in state institutions.
Colonel Al Rumaihi stated that the Ministry of Interior, led by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, is actively supporting national initiatives aimed at promoting integrity and governance. This reflects Bahrain's dedication to combating corruption and ensuring sustainable development.
He further explained that the forum aims to develop awareness by transitioning from general campaigns to specialized dialogue platforms. These target administrative leaders, decision-makers, and officials responsible for legal, financial, and compliance affairs in both government and private sectors, along with representatives from the banking sector. The forum seeks to enhance joint cooperation and activate strategic partnerships to bolster anti-corruption efforts and institutional transparency.
Colonel Al Rumaihi emphasized that the forum forms part of a national strategy to foster a culture of integrity, enhance institutional integration, and raise awareness about the significance of protecting public funds. This aligns with Bahrain's commitment to international agreements, particularly the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
The forum featured presentations from the General Directorate and national oversight bodies, such as the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and the National Audit Office. These presentations addressed financial and administrative oversight, financial crime prevention, and best practices in integrity. Over 150 participants from 55 ministries, authorities, companies, and banks attended, underscoring the importance of institutional and community partnership in promoting integrity and combating corruption.
