Manama: On the sidelines of the Bahrain International Show (Mara'ee 2025), Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, along with Dr. Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Habsi, Oman's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, UAE Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity Sector, conducted a field visit to the mangrove plantation projects implemented by GPIC and Peninsula Farms.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Mubarak highlighted Bahrain's dedication to bolstering GCC cooperation in environmental sustainability and food security. He underlined the significance of mangrove cultivation, particularly through the national "Mangrove Bahrain" initiative, which aims to quadruple mangrove coverage by 2035 as part of the Kingdom's objective to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Al Mubarak also praised Bahraini companies for their effective agricultural and livestock production models that contribute to national food security.
During the visit, the delegation was welcomed by Yasser Alabbasi, Chief Executive Officer, who showcased the company's mangrove planting project, which has contributed over 260,000 mangrove trees in collaboration with the ministry. The delegation proceeded to Peninsula Farms to examine its agricultural and livestock production lines, technologies, and research initiatives.
