Saudi Arabia and Singapore to Establish Crude Oil Storage in Singapore

Doha:The Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Singapore's Ministry of Energy and Trade and Industry have announced their intention to establish a crude oil storage arrangement in Singapore. This initiative is aimed at bolstering energy security and resilience for both nations.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Singapore's Energy Market Authority and JTC Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Arabian Oil Company during the Singapore International Energy Week. This marks the initial step towards implementing the storage arrangement.

The plan involves storing Saudi crude oil at the Jurong Rock Caverns on Singapore's Jurong Island, with operations anticipated to commence in the second half of 2027. The ministries from both countries will collaborate closely to ensure the arrangement's progress and coordinate with relevant authorities.

This storage arrangement is designed to secure Singapore's energy needs against potential supply disruptions, thereby strengthening its energy security. Additionally, it aims to enhance the resilience of the Saudi crude oil supply chain within Southeast Asia.

This initiative represents a significant milestone in the energy cooperation between Singapore and Saudi Arabia, highlighting their shared commitment to regional energy security and Singapore's role as a pivotal energy hub in the region.
