Bahrain Joins UN Launch of Expert Group on Technology and Security

New York:Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, attended a media stakeout for the launch of the UN Security Council's Informal Expert Group on Technology and Security.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the group includes Bahrain, France, Panama, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Liberia, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, and is co-chaired by Greece and Latvia in 2026.

Bahrain's involvement in the group aligns with its priorities as a Security Council member, specifically focusing on traditional and emerging security threats. The group aims to evaluate the impact of emerging technologies on international peace and security, assess related challenges and opportunities, and support the Council's efforts in peacekeeping, counterterrorism, and civilian protection.

Additionally, the group will serve as a platform for Security Council members to exchange expertise and hold regular discussions. It will draw on contributions from the UN Secretariat, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to help the Council adapt to rapid technological advances.
