Intensive Campaigns Launched to Curb Electric Scooter Violations

Jakarta:The Ministry of Interior has announced that the General Directorate of Traffic will be intensifying field campaigns across all governorates, coordinating with police directorates to identify and address violations related to electric bikes and scooters that contravene Decision (58) of 2026. Legal action will be pursued against those found in violation.

According to Bahrain News Agency, regulations stipulate that electric scooters must be operated only in designated areas, with a top speed of 25 km/h. They should not carry an extra passenger or travel against traffic flow, and riders are required to wear helmets and adhere to safety and security measures. Children under seven years old are not permitted to ride these vehicles unless supervised by a parent, guardian, or designated caregiver.

The General Directorate of Traffic emphasized that parents must supervise their children to ensure they do not use electric bikes and scooters in violation of the rules, as this could endanger their safety and the safety of others. Legal accountability for violations includes penalties of up to six months' imprisonment and a fine of BD500.

Additionally, the Directorate urged riders of electric bikes and scooters to comply with instructions from traffic and police patrols, stopping immediately when asked. It underscored that failure to do so is a violation that requires legal action and poses a safety risk. Compliance with traffic rules and regulations is encouraged to promote public security and safety.
