Manama:Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, chaired the 12th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardisation Affairs in Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Jasem Mohammed Al Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, participated in the meeting. Minister Fakhro emphasized the significance of continued joint efforts to strengthen the GCC standardisation system, aligning with GCC leaders' directives to bolster economic development, enhance the competitiveness of Gulf products, facilitate intra-GCC trade, and protect consumers.
He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise and building upon previous achievements to harmonize regulations and standards. Standardisation, he noted, is a critical pillar for economic integration, trade facilitation, and competitiveness, while also aiding consumer protection, product and service quality, innovation, and sustainable development.
The Minister also stressed the need to advance the GCC standardisation system in response to global economic, technological, and industrial changes, aiming to align it with international best practices and standards, thereby supporting the GCC's development and integration objectives.
The meeting addressed agenda items focused on developing the GCC standardisation system and harmonizing regulations and standards to support economic integration and trade among GCC countries.
