Bahrain Polytechnic Hosts Soft Launch of ‘Sindbad: Seas of Destiny’ Video Game

Manama: Bahrain Polytechnic held the soft launch of 'Sindbad: Seas of Destiny', a video game inspired by Arab heritage, developed with the participation of the Polytechnic's students and graduates.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the event was attended by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of Bahrain Polytechnic's Board of Trustees; Professor Ciaran O Cathain, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Polytechnic; Okai Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain; and industry partners.

The game was developed by Bahrain-based game studio SKRA W.L.L., a subsidiary of Japan's SMRI Inc., under the supervision of Bahrain Polytechnic graduate Shehab Ali. More than 200 interns, including students from fields such as programming, game development, 3D modelling, animation, storytelling, art, marketing, and music, contributed to the project.

Dr. Juma commended the company and students for their work on the project, highlighting the role of partnerships between higher education institutions and industry in providing young people with opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in a professional environment.

Professor O Cathain noted that 150 Bahrain Polytechnic students and graduates participated in the multidisciplinary team of more than 200 interns, gaining practical experience in game development and digital and creative fields.

Kei Hiroki, Chief Executive Officer of SMRI Inc. and SKRA W.L.L., stated that the programme provided young people in the Kingdom of Bahrain with experience in developing a project as part of an integrated team.

'Sindbad: Seas of Destiny' draws on the tales of 'One Thousand and One Nights', combining exploration and adventure with Arab culture, folklore, and storytelling heritage in a contemporary interactive experience.
