Dubai: Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, led Bahrain's delegation participating in the 50th edition of Middle East Energy 2026, held at Dubai World Trade Centre in the United Arab Emirates. The event saw active participation from global leaders in the energy sector, with its opening graced by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazroui, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Humaidan, in his opening address titled "Empowering the Next Fifty: Decarbonisation, Digital Transformation, and Resilience in the Energy Transition," highlighted the significant shifts in the global electricity sector. He noted the move from merely expanding power generation to developing sustainable and resilient energy systems. His address underscored the Gulf region's growing strategic importance in global energy security, emphasizing its potential in leading the energy sector's transformation.
The minister pointed out the Gulf states' advantageous geographical positions, substantial investment opportunities, and visionary strategies, which equip them to spearhead the energy transition and influence future market trends. He elaborated on the increasing demand for electricity due to the rise of AI, data centers, and the digital economy, which necessitates advancements in electricity systems. Digital technologies, he mentioned, offer vital tools for enhancing grid management and efficiency.
Minister Humaidan urged the conversion of climate ambitions into actionable projects, stressing the importance of low-carbon energy initiatives and the role of energy storage in improving grid resilience. He advocated for innovative financing models to stimulate private sector involvement in accelerating energy projects.
He emphasized that the energy sector's future will be defined by integrating decarbonization, digital transformation, and resilience, requiring synchronized efforts in technology, capital, and policies to keep pace with rapid sectoral changes. He further noted the significance of exhibitions and conferences as crucial venues for knowledge exchange and forming strategic alliances, with Middle East Energy 2026 attracting over 1,500 exhibitors and thousands of participants from over 120 countries to discuss and showcase advancements in energy security, system resilience, digital transformation, and sustainability.
