Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, received the heads of delegations participating in the 18th meeting of the Executive Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Customs Union Authority, held in Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister expressed his appreciation for the member states' efforts to meet the requirements of the Customs Union, which enjoys the support of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states. He commended the GCC states' response to the negative repercussions of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by launching a temporary exceptional mechanism for logistical transit. This mechanism played a crucial role in accelerating the movement of goods and ensuring the smooth flow of goods, particularly food and medical supplies.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah highlighted that this was achieved through rapid information exchange, coordinated procedures, and unified customs efforts, reflecting the GCC states' readiness to handle emergencies and maintain the continuity of trade and supply chains.
The minister explained that the next phase requires accelerating progress and developing joint action amid successive challenges to complete the establishment of the Customs Union and achieve its objectives. He also highlighted the role of customs systems and procedures in enhancing the efficiency of entry points, securing supply chains, and safeguarding the security, safety, and economic interests of GCC states.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah commended the efforts of the GCC Customs Union Authority and its role in completing the requirements for establishing the Customs Union and advancing joint Gulf customs cooperation. He wished the meeting success in achieving its objectives.
