Bahrain Space Agency CEO Attends Launch of Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

Florida: Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), attended the launch ceremony of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, organised by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The event reflects Bahrain's efforts to enhance cooperation with international space agencies and bolster its presence in global scientific forums, aligning with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's vision for Bahrain's role in the space sector.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Aseeri highlighted the participation as a testament to the robust relationship between the BSA and NASA. He stated that Bahrain's involvement in the Artemis Accords has expanded opportunities for collaboration in space science and its applications. This marks a significant step in supporting Bahrain's ambition to advance scientific and technological capabilities, aiming to establish the Kingdom as a regional leader in space science and technology.

Dr. Al Aseeri emphasized that the invitation from NASA to attend the launch underscores the strong ties between Bahrain and the United States, particularly in the rapidly advancing space sector. He noted that these relations have been further strengthened by the strategic visit of Lieutenant General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to NASA, demonstrating Bahrain's commitment to staying abreast of scientific developments and leveraging them for national advancement.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, named after NASA's first chief astronomer, is a next-generation space observatory designed to explore the universe's mysteries. It is set to embark on a five-year scientific mission, potentially extending to 10 years.

Dr. Al Aseeri explained the telescope's scientific importance, noting its capability to provide a panoramic view of the universe with a field of view over 100 times wider than that of the Hubble Space Telescope. This feature will enable large-scale surveys of the sky, allowing for detailed mapping of galaxies and dark matter distribution.
