Manama: The ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the United States convened a roundtable discussion with Congressman Brian Mast, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, along with several senior Republican members of the Committee. This meeting is part of the ongoing initiatives under the Kingdom of Bahrain's current presidency of the GCC.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, represented the Bahraini presidency of the GCC and led the delegation. In his opening remarks, he highlighted the necessity of continuing and enhancing strategic dialogue between the GCC and the United States to bolster regional security, stability, and shared prosperity.
The roundtable included detailed discussions on recent regional and international developments, focusing on the dynamic security landscape in the Middle East. Participants reviewed key challenges impacting regional security, such as protecting maritime routes, ensuring freedom of international navigation, and addressing the effects of current developments on the global economy.
Participants reaffirmed that the relationship between the United States, the GCC, and Jordan is a longstanding strategic partnership rooted in decades of cooperation and coordination. They explored ways to enhance collaboration to support mutual interests, regional peace, and sustainable development.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid emphasized that the GCC states, Jordan, and the United States are committed to dialogue and cooperation as primary methods for addressing regional crises. He noted that cross-border challenges today necessitate closer coordination, collective action, and sustained exchange of views among international partners.
Participants agreed that this partnership is crucial for addressing regional challenges and responding to evolving developments with a shared sense of responsibility. They committed to maintaining regular communication channels and consultation and deepening diplomatic engagement with the U.S. Congress to support the region's security, stability, and prosperity.
