Manama: In line with its presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Bahrain will host the 7th GCC Digital Government Award in 2026. This initiative aims to recognize outstanding digital government projects and initiatives, showcase successful government experiences, and enhance a culture of innovation and excellence in digital government across GCC member states.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), emphasized that the award acts as a regional platform for highlighting distinguished digital initiatives and projects across member states. It recognizes government achievements and promotes innovation through the adoption of advanced technologies. Al Qaed mentioned that the award contributes to enhancing government performance, improving service quality for beneficiaries, and facilitating the exchange of best practices in digital government.
Al Qaed further noted that Bahrain's hosting of the award, along with its chairmanship of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, reflects the Kingdom's advanced position in digital government. It also underscores its commitment to supporting GCC cooperation by strengthening the exchange of expertise and best practices. These efforts contribute to advancing digital transformation and enhancing government services across GCC member states.
The award comprises nine specialized categories covering areas such as Best Digital Government Service, Best Use of Artificial Intelligence, Best Open Data Initiative, and more. The nomination period will be open from July 19 to September 3, allowing government entities across GCC member states to participate, in coordination with digital government authorities.
The GCC Digital Government Award, endorsed by the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government in 2009, will see its 7th edition hosted by Bahrain in 2026.
