Foreign Ministry Hosts Panel on International Day of Women in Diplomacy

Manama: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a panel discussion to commemorate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. The event was attended by Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheeri, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights and Chairman of the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance Committee at the ministry, along with senior ministry officials, representatives from the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain, and women diplomats from Gulf and Arab embassies accredited to the Kingdom.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Dr. Bucheeri emphasized the achievements of Bahraini women in diplomacy, crediting them to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He also highlighted the role of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in promoting equal opportunities and enhancing women's participation in national development.

Dr. Bucheeri further applauded the contributions of Bahraini women diplomats, particularly those serving in the Kingdom of Bahrain's team at the United Nations Security Council in New York. Their involvement underscores Bahrain's dedication to providing opportunities based on competence and merit.

The panel explored the experiences of Bahraini women in diplomacy and multilateral work. It featured a recorded address by Ambassador Nancy Abdulla Jamal, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, and a discussion with Ambassador Rana Mohammed Hasan, Director of Information Systems Directorate, Jehan Al Murbati, Senior Programme Officer at the United Nations Development Programme in Bahrain, and Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Chief of the Organisations Sector.

This event is part of the ministry's initiatives to foster equal opportunities and gender balance, highlighting the accomplishments of Bahraini women in diplomacy in alignment with the objectives of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025 - 2026).
