Manama: Ali Al Nemah, Vice President for Electricity Affairs at the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), announced that the authority's Electricity and Water Networks Control Centre has been honored with the Innovation in Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Technologies Award at the Bahrain Smart Cities Conference 2026 Awards. The recognition highlights EWA's dedication to integrating digital transformation and smart technologies to improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of electricity and water services.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the project marks a significant step in the modernization of Bahrain's utility infrastructure. It provides a robust digital platform that enhances the operational readiness of the Kingdom's electricity and water networks. Al Nemah credited the project team's collaborative efforts and the integration of advanced digital, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things technologies for the project's success.
The Electricity and Water Networks Control Centre stands as one of Bahrain's premier digital infrastructure initiatives and is among the most advanced in the region. It functions as the central hub for managing the Kingdom's electricity and water networks, allowing for continuous, real-time monitoring and control of transmission and distribution operations via a unified platform.
The centre features private LTE communications for essential operations, in addition to AI-driven applications, Internet of Things technologies, and advanced operational analytics. Its geo-redundant architecture boosts service resilience and network continuity. Furthermore, the facility's partial reliance on solar energy aligns with Bahrain's broader sustainability objectives.
