Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain ranked among the Top 5 MENA Ecosystems in Performance, which measures the size and performance of an ecosystem based on the accumulated tech startup value created from exits and funding. Bahrain also secured positions among the Top 10 MENA Ecosystems in AI-Native Cluster, which measures the size and intensity of AI startup activity within the ecosystem, and among the Top 15 MENA Ecosystems in R and D Engine, which measures innovation through research activity.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Alya Al Aali, Deputy Chief Executive of Strategy and Insights at the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), stated that Bahrain's advantage lies in its agile startup ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs in developing and testing ideas. This environment facilitates expansion into regional markets. She emphasized Tamkeen's continued efforts to support entrepreneurs through initiatives that stimulate innovation, accelerate business growth, and expand access to financing and emerging technologies, thus enhancing sustainability and competitiveness.
Samantha Evans, Managing Director for MENA at Startup Genome, highlighted Bahrain's strategic focus on precision rather than size, particularly in fintech and related technologies. She noted that with Tamkeen's support, Bahrain's ecosystem demonstrates that targeted investments and clear positioning can outperform broader strategies.
The report also identified several factors contributing to Bahrain's appeal as a startup destination. It offers a connected and agile ecosystem, competitive costs, access to regional markets, and a supportive regulatory environment. Collaborative public-private sector initiatives further strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom.
Startup Genome, the Global Entrepreneurship Network, and Tamkeen have continued their collaboration to monitor and benchmark Bahrain's startup ecosystem. They aim to identify opportunities and growth areas that support Bahrain's innovation-driven economic development plans.
