Bahrain Highlights Commitment to Disability Rights at UN Conference

New york: The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the 19th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held from June 9 to 11, 2026. In its national statement, delivered by the Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the United Nations, the Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to the principles and objectives of the Convention, emphasizing its efforts to promote the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure their participation in all aspects of society.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain highlighted that empowering persons with disabilities is a national priority under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Kingdom is engaged in advancing inclusive policies, strengthening legal frameworks, and removing barriers to full participation.

In its role as Chair of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Bahrain delivered the GCC joint statement, presented by Ambassador Nancy Abdullah Jamal. The statement emphasized the GCC states' commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities as part of sustainable development and inclusive societies.

The GCC statement also highlighted progress in aligning national legislation with the Convention and expanding access to education, healthcare, employment, and assistive technologies. Bahrain's participation in the conference, themed "CRPD at 20: Celebrating and consolidating achievements and shaping the next phase of implementation in a changing world", underscores its commitment to supporting efforts that advance the rights and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
